Crandall University is hosting a public lecture about the future of denominations, with responses from denominational leaders, on Thurs Nov 23 (7-9pm).  Church leaders no longer identify with their denomination’s distinctive beliefs — compared to previous decades.  Are other organizations — for example, megachurch networks — taking up the work of denominations?

Adam Stewart, Crandall sociology professor, will explain trends over the past two decades in one denomination. New research revealed that Pentecostal Assemblies (PAOC) church leaders do not focus on long-time denominational distinctives like Spirit baptism and speaking in tongues. Church leader success now seems to lie in doing what evangelical pastors all do.

A panel of leaders will discuss the future of the Wesleyan, Baptist (CBAC) and Pentecostal (PAOC) denominations after Adam’s presentation:

  • H C Wilson — District Superintendent, Wesleyan Church
  • ·David Morehouse – CBAC lead pastor
  • Paul Pattison – PAOC lead pastor

What do these leaders see, fear, and hope for their church organizations in the future?

Hope to see you there. Light refreshments to follow.
